LASIK and Dry Eye

There are several reasons a person may be considered a good or bad LASIK candidate. To be eligible for LASIK eye surgery, Illinois and Missouri patients must be 18 years of age and must not have had a substantial change in their eyeglass or contact lens prescription for the last 12 months. An assessment will establish if LASIK is suited to the lifestyle and eye condition of each candidate, and a check of certain conditions will be performed.

For example, LASIK and dry eye may not be agreeable. Severely dry eyes, eye inflammation or infection, excessive corneal disease or scarring, degenerative disease of the cornea, uncontrolled diabetes, use of certain drugs, pregnancy, nursing, deficient corneal tissue, specific rheumatologic conditions, and pacemakers must be discussed carefully with a surgeon. Other conditions not listed may also complicate surgery, and thus, must be discussed beforehand. Check out our LASIK eye doctors located in the about us section of our web site.

Likely patients should also be aware of what to expect before and after surgery. Before LASIK surgery, Illinois and Missouri residents should be aware of any irrational expectations. LASIK patients should not expect to have "perfect" vision without glasses, or to see better than they do with an up-to-date prescription. Visual freedom, however, is available and only takes a few minutes of their time.
